Im really bored right now so ive decided that Im going to ask how people got their user names. I got mine so long ago I dont even recall how I got it I think it was something along the lines of that old saying "Im a lover not a fighter." and I was like well Im both. view post
i looked in the TTT glossary. view post
My name is for one of my D&D characters. view post
Xray -- from my PhD thesis work on self-assembling molecular systems. I wanted a gender-neutral handle. the Enforcer -- I used to be a mod on another, now defunct feminist board. Not surprisingly, most people (erroneously) assume that I'm a guy because...who knows? Perhaps because I cuss a lot, drink a lot, and ogle women. I've had this handle for...way longer than I care to admit. view post
Perhaps because "enforcer" doesn't sound like a traditional femine profession? Gramatically speaking it may be gender-neutral, but I do not think the connotations are. (yet?) It's like "cop." One sees plenty of female police officers on the streets nowadays, but if someone says "cop" most people will still think of a man. The same goes for Xray. X-ray = science = male. It may not be pretty, but such still is the popular perception. As for my name... take a wild guess. view post
well kellhus' sword is called Enshoiya which means "certainty" in Sheyic. And so, of course, the edge of certainty would be fairly sharp, I would assume..and...*shrugs* swords are super-cool? That, and it sounds like a phrase someone might actually use, like the edge of the universe, or the edge of existance, or the edge of sanity... I've been to all of those places. Also, it was kinda a statement about how "the only absolute is uncertainty" like scott says in the book...yeah, It's a pretty all-inclusive username. And you call me what you want [i:p8kd2hs4]except[/i:p8kd2hs4] for EoC, because here in Arkansas, that stands for the End of Course exam, and that brings up bad memories.

i got mine by combining the first couple of letters of my first and last name, thinking which combinations would sound decent. so: g = first letter of first name laz = first 3 letters of last name view post
Quite obviously, I took mine name from the books as well. Gotta love the cavalry. view post
I'd used the nick Sylvanus for a long time (registered for a site. wanted something woodsy. figured i'd go with the Roman god of the forests). When Three Seas was having some hiccups, I needed a new username, and the same day I noted the homophonic similarity between my nick and the word [i:26bmb1lp]scilvenas[/i:26bmb1lp], meaning apocolypse, from which the Scilvendi derived their name. view post
hahaha gierra...god of carnal passion, nice. view post

But a lady can hope, right? Anyway, considering that my cohorts (at the time) chose handles like "Sparklegirl" ( ), I was eager to develop something a bit less...estrogenic.
In my field -- 10% women... feh.
On Topic: Edge -- nice username. I diggit.

Well I came up with mine a few years ago when I was looking for a new user name to use online. Since I was then engrossed in my BSc in Biology and Chemistry the Entropic part should be perfectly clear. I then applied it in its current form to give it a rather broad range of meaning and as a general comment about the way the world appears to be headed at times. Plus it usually gets questions raised everywhere I use it with people asking what it means.

Looking around my book- and paper-strewn apartment, I'd say Entropy and I have tight relationship. It's all about positive delta S. view post
My username is one that I've had for sometime. It's the name of a mercenary band in a video game my friends and I have been making for the past 3 years. view post

Hehe now I'm venturing into Computational Biology/Bioinformatics the delta S on my life and surroundings increases exponentially.

After reading some of these replies, I kinda wish now that I had taken the time to come up with something a bit more clever. As it is, it's more or less obvious... My main hobby is chasing storms. Given that Mog-Pharau manifests as a tornado-like column of whirling wind, accompanied by dark storm clouds, well, the name Stormchaser seemed especially appropriate and I looked no further. view post
Mine's rather straightforward: Zarathinius is one of the famous writers of the Three Seas quoted in the PoN. I wanted to go with Ajencis, but that was, of course, already taken. view post
It jumped up and bit me. view post
Must have been a painful name. view post
Mine was simple enough; based off a generic email that I use for various online activities. view post
Dunno really. Usually when crap bubbles out of my head I wipe it off, this time it must've dripped onto the keyboard... view post
I used to be interested in Egyptian mythology (used, cause I haven't done anything going that direction for a decade). At one point I stumbled on Sokar, the God whose purpose still is in question, there a couple of different meanings given to him, which were quite controversary, so I decided to get Sokar for the online community. Unfortunately with the coming of StarGate, a lot of people have interests in this name, and use it quite often, so I have to come up with extensions to preserve the old one. I will soon change it probably, to keep the uniqueness... Also, I somehow thought that Warrior-Poet was in the same line as Warrior-Prophet, I seem to be wrong. view post

hehe, tell us the Egyptians thought the universe was created....

I think there was supposed to be a "how" in that sentence. Something about a dung beetle, wasn't it? view post
lol I thought some god jizzed on the earth it might be the dung beetle thing though. view post
Ick - so we could all be lix? (obscure Clive Barker reference) view post
yeah, sorry...there was supposed to be a "how"....ehem...yeah, it's like wp said.... view post
Actually that was quite interesting, I don't remember exactly, but it resembled a power game between the Gods, so each of the 'sects' had their own story of how the universe was created. I never heard of that being done by a dung beetle though. view post
