if you were in his shoes... posted 13 Apr 2006, 02:04 by glaz, Peralogue

just finished TTT not 30mins ago. firstly: AKKA KICKS @$$!!!!! ok, so he gets to be with the one person with a sliver of hope that he can be with (esmi). then she thought him dead, and beds your "harbinger." he comes back, thinking everything would be the same, but it's not. he decided that the world is bigger than himself, so he sacrifices himself (AGAIN) but in the end, he went his own way. renounced all he is and renounced kellhus, even esmi, walks alone. he even thinks himself alone, a perfect man. so, is this selfishness? IMO, it's not. he did what's right for him. and after all that happened to him, i think he deserves some happiness. sadly, the ending is the closest he'll get to happiness, as i can see it... so what about your opinion? if you were in his shoes, what would you do? view post

If i were Akka as soon as i heard about Kellhus with Esmi i would have roasted the bastard on the circumfix but hey thats just me. but if had gotten all the way to the point of Kellhus becoming Aspect Emperor i would have done the same thing as he did. and yes Akka kicks ass view post

akka, definitely, is my all time fave fantasy character now. same here, on toasting him on the circumfix, and i don't think akka can do much now that kellhus has become a very powerful wizard as well. that time on the circumfix was his chance... it's gone now, though. view post

I recall that Achamian's rejection of Kellhus occurred after he (A) had betrayed him (K) to the Consult. I have argued before that had Kellhus not taken Esmenet as his lover she likely would have been long dead upon Achamian's return. Achamian has never contemplated that scenario for all his jealousy. view post

Protection? posted 13 Apr 2006, 14:04 by Mahajanga Mordecai, Auditor

Why would he have to "take her" to protect her from the slaughter that occured int the desert. Serwe is the one that had to be carried out of the Carathay, not Esmenet. Could he not have protected her without stealing her from his teacher. Note: When you purposely seduce someone to draw their mind away from they significant other it's stealing. The "fact" that Akka was "dead" is irrelevant. view post

Yea, I also think the argument of Kelhus taking Esmenet somehow saved her to not be entirely accurate. Esmenet, above all, is a survivor. Somehow I think she still would have found a role in the Holy War and managed to survive. At the point of Akka's "death" I think alot of the people in that circle would have helped look after her. She had become more than a whore to even them. view post

any way we look at it, akka is in a no-win situation. there's no way he'll win against kellhus vying for esmi's heart. after all, she's with kellhus' child and kellhus is an almost perfect specimen. as far as drawing esmi's mind away from akka, i don't think she even knows it, knowing that kellhus is a master manipulator. what i really hate about all this is that esmi gave herself up too easily. yes, she is a survivor. but gave up akka in what? a month? it's like there's no mourning at all. you lose someone you love, then a moment after, you find someone else.that's just... dandy. if i were akka, id burn kellhus while he was being hung. i don't care about him being Harbinger and all. he took away my one true love. the world doesn't matter anymore. this means ill never get esmi back, but after being taken by kellhus, there's no chance in hell she's coming back to me anyway. kill kellhus, then walk away. walk off a cliff, probably. :D  view post

Hmm, personally, I'd go get wasted for a couple of years, wait for the pain to abate and get over it. Cutting yourself off from your past is always fun too, it allows you to make new friends and reinvent yourself. Revenge is never worth the bother. Moping around and casting yourself as the wronged party just bores everyone (including yourself eventually). Poor little Akka... he could just relocate to a Stephen Donaldson novel. (Okay, that's a bit harsh  ) view post

They have extremely long penises... seriously. I forget how many feet but I think it's like 8 to 10. Secondly this conversation is sinking fast, how about we give the free-falling sex talk a rest hmm? view post

Is that sarcasm I sense... very well let me try again. Were I in Akka's shoes I'd... uh.... Oh hell, who am I kidding I'd never be in Akka's shoes. I'm not that emotionally weak (as he was before the end) and I'm too selfish to put the world first and my anger second. The Spires would have burned as soon as I reached Caraskand, the "prophet" would burn soon after, that whore-wife of mine would choke on my... um, you get the idea, and the world would be f*cked!; Apocolypse be damned! When you think about it, Scott simply had to write Akka as a weak person from the beginning otherwise the book would be TOTALLY different; many people would die early on. Geshrunni for threatening me, Proyas for provoking me, Esmi for boning other men, the entire Thousand Temples for killing Inrau (which is what I would have thought), and possibly Conphas and Xerius for being insolent. Then again, I probably would have died early on too. Can't possibly destroy the Thousand Temples, too many Chorae plus Conryia would be on my arse. view post
