Paraskavedekatriphobia Anyone?*Fear of Friday the 13th* posted 13 Oct 2006, 14:10 by alhana, Auditor

On a day when the British Medical Journal recommends that you should stay at home, I thought I would start a discussion to see how people here feel about Friday the 13th and other superstitions. It is estimated that between $800 and $900 million dollars will be lost today because people refuse to bank or do business. In France, some people would hire themselves out as the "14th Guest" or [i:wk6piaqg]quatorzien[/i:wk6piaqg] to ward off bad luck that might befall the "13th Guest". I personally have no fear of the day and I am planning to dine out with friends this evening. Since it also falls in October this time, some people are doubly "freaked out" by this most unlucky day falling in the month of haunting. I would love to read stories about your own good or bad luck associated with Friday the 13th and other symbols. view post

That day and every other day means nothing to me. Well I should not say that because the day football season starts is very important to me. view post

it doesn;t mean anything ot me really, but it's fun to be superstitous. i was partying in montreal on friday, so it was fun. view post

posted 17 Oct 2006, 17:10 by Harrol, Moderator

posted 17 Oct 2006, 17:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

well, it's been a while since i've been to montreal.. and admittedly, i am not much of a partier. so no, not exactly. view post

Sorry and here I thought you were a party animal. Well Gierra you are full of surprises. view post

posted 18 Oct 2006, 12:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

haha no i just sit at home and smoke pot, watch the simpsons and paint. somewhere in there i go to concerts and drink gin. that's about it. sorry to dissappoint. view post

posted 18 Oct 2006, 16:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Gierra do not ever admit to that again. It makes you sound like your 40 or something. view post

posted 18 Oct 2006, 21:10 by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

Or a laid back 20 some odd year old. view post

posted 19 Oct 2006, 12:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Yeah really laid back 20 something year old. Well I guess that is what smoking grass will do to a person. view post

posted 19 Oct 2006, 13:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

hehehe if you wanna see the long term effects of pot, look at my dad. 50, smoked pot daily for at least 30 years. most energetic, motivated and hardworking person i've ever known. at any rate, i'm laid back, but i'm not lazy. i do more than that. this weekend, barring terrible weather, i shall be chopping down saplings and some bigger dead trees. i got me a shiny new hatchet  view post

posted 19 Oct 2006, 15:10 by Harrol, Moderator

I never meant to imply that you are lazy. So make sure you do not use that hatchet on me. If you have to use it on someone then I suggest WP. I think in one of his posts he stated that he wanted to be hacked to death. view post

posted 19 Oct 2006, 19:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

nah, i will be using my hatchet only in the name of love... that sounds awfully weird, actually. view post

not at the rate i'm going.. i probably just doubled my post count with all these silly threads. being a postwhore is hard work. i need a drink. thankfully i get to go home in half an hour. view post

posted 20 Oct 2006, 20:10 by Harrol, Moderator

These posts are not silly. They relate directly to the quality of people who read Scott's books. Or should I say people who are bored and waiting for the next book to come out and really have something to talk about. view post

posted 20 Oct 2006, 20:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

do you mean bored? cos there's this guy always calls me 'the board'. seriously. view post

I am glad you had fun. Your description makes the fun you had sound more like a melee than a concert. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 03:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Yeah I love reading about the Roman invasion of England and the rebellion that the 14th legion crushed. You would think because I am English in ethintisity that I would cheer for the Celts but I always end up cheering for the Romans. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 05:10 by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

lol Celts all the way bitch. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 13:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

ok, warrior-prophet is my new best friend. how i despise the romans. then again i hate the english too, so i guess you;re out harrol. and here we were, getting along so nicely. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 13:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Gierra why do you hate the Romans and the English? All they did was take what was theirs from other people. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 18:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

lol do i even need to answer that? view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 19:10 by Harrol, Moderator

No I guess you do not have to answer that. The Romans were still really cool tacticians and I love reading about their style of warfare. view post

posted 25 Oct 2006, 21:10 by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

Celts warfare beats all, go crazy and kill people, cant get any better than that. view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 14:10 by alhana, Auditor

Yeah, Celts forever cuz mooning people by lifting up your kilt is just the best intimidation tactic EVER!!!!! Hey wait..I just joined in the hijack of my own post!!!!! view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 16:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Alright, but remember the legionaries that Rome used during that time frame were from northern Italy or from Spain. The people from those areas were Celts which means most Roman soldiers of that day were Celts fighting as the Romans taught them to. The 14th legion that crushed the Celtic revolt in England were from Spain and therefore Celtic themselves. view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 16:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

not to mention that rome used a lot of conquered tribes to fight in their armies. view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 16:10 by Harrol, Moderator

True they mainly served as auxillary i.e. arcers, calvary and light infantry. They also were not citizens where as the legions were citizens. view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 19:10 by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

and that is why i said armies instead of legions. :P view post

posted 26 Oct 2006, 22:10 by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

Bam! She got you on that one. view post

posted 27 Oct 2006, 12:10 by Harrol, Moderator

The chaff shall return and when we do all wheat shall tremble with fear. view post

posted 31 Oct 2006, 12:10 by Harrol, Moderator

Thats not true I know of your bad memory and the fact that you are easily distracted. When the chaff returns i will throw something bright and shinny on the floor and while the chaff is distracted I will make my getaway. view post

posted 31 Oct 2006, 21:10 by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

THe chaff are many and yes one or two will be distracted but one of us will kill you. view post
