This may be a bit off the topic, but what would happen if organized religion and religion in general did not exist from the beginning, we would still war, murder, etc. but in what name would we do so? That will probably never happen though. It may seem outright insane but I personally believe that man is capable of sorcery or something of it, though it would be very difficult for most to comprehend let alone learn how. Magic is nature in the defiance of science. If sorcery was real, or is for that matter, imagine what would happen if the masses knew and believed it. I assume it would be just like medieval times again with the witch burnings. Off topic again, but I'm curious about this; In ancient times cultures combined their religion and religious rituals with magic or sorcery and it was accepted, ie. Ancient Egypt. Now magic/sorcery is frowned upon within most religions, then again most doubt it's existence. view post

I've read that series, I enjoyed it a lot. I couldn't believe it was meant for children though, well I was a mere child myself when I did read it, heh. I love the idea of parallel universes, familiars, etc. in literature. view post

There is more to life in my opinion, many things, but what? I can't help but keep pondering over the ideas of alternate realms and parallels in the universe. Or the ideas of spirits and magic. Where does one begin to speak of this topic when there are so many ways it may go? I can't help but feel that there is more to our reality than we think. We tend to look at what's right in front of us. What about everything underlying? We cannot be the only realm or universe, there may be parallels. Step aside from physics and other sciences. I'm sure there are currently things in this world that cannot be explained by either. Are humans capable of such a thing as magic, or how powerful is our mind. I believe that man has the ability to do certain things, manipulate energy for example, read people, feed off other's emotions, etc. I may sound insane, and so be it, I'm sure some would think I am for believing such things. Take Outer Body Experiences for example, being able to travel outside of the body in another form, to different planes of reality. Is it possible, people have made claims to doing it but are they merely insane or is it possible to harness the ability or learn to do such things? If there is such a thing as being able to manipulate energy, is magic possible? This is completely hypothetical, some of you may believe these things are possible, others may not. I leave it to you to decide for yourselves and I just hope that everything I said made sense. view post

Then again, as a child I was unlike others... I began to read Poe at the age of 12 or so, something most children would not really be able to fully understand. The other day I was thinking about buying the series to read it again. What do you think of alternate and parallel worlds and what not? view post

I did, I posted it more so about the idea of parallel universes and what our mind is capable of in the idea of magic or the manipulation of energy, etc. I don't know what people on this board are like so hopefully they don't think I'm completely out of my mind. Myself, I think quite a few things are possible, mostly things people would think me crazy for though :-/ Speaking of other worlds in being like ours, I don't know where I heard it or if it is at all true, but I heard that a planet in another galaxy much like Earth was found... the only difference is that it was created several thousand or million years after. So it may have human life forms on it... not sure, then again I've not decided if I believe it or not yet, heh. view post

In my opinion, some humans have been able to tap into their true potential. Our true potential, whatever it may be, is most likely much more than those who have tapped into it has tapped into. I doubt many of those who have accomplished this like to make it public. I myself would think that most humans would be too afraid of such things, and would not accept those who had found some underlying potential which science was unable to explain. Parallel universes on the other hand; people seldom believe things unless science can explain it, if science cannot explain it, it is worthy to be afraid of. Science hasn't explained everything. Some believe that if a parallel does exist, science has to be able to explain it. Can't anything in this world happen with out having to be explained by science? What I mean is, why do we find it so difficult to try to explain things using science even after we can't explain them using it? Perhaps it can be explained, who really knows. If our minds do have limitless possibilities, then imagine what one could be capable of. view post

It seems to me that humans cannot live with something which is unexplained. The unexplained seem to scare the mass. Did magic and sorcery ever really exist though? I find myself often wondering this. I believe it did in some way or another. All humans are capable of it I believe, though it would be very hard to learn how one would go about doing so and I'm sure many are unable to grasp the general concept of this. And of course, we being humans, when something unnatural does occur we become afraid and brand it as evil or unholy when it is not able to be explained, you are right about this. Will we ever be able to come to terms with that of which cannot be explained? view post

Slightly off topic, but do you read Douglas Adams? In one of his books he wrote that once the meaning of the universe or the meaning of life or something along those lines has been figured out by humans, it would end and be replaced by something even more bizarre. view post

Perhaps so... but I have been contemplating something for awhile; Stephen Hawking, I'm not sure what he has... motor neuron disease or something, but look at what he has accomplished in his life. I don't know if my theory is valid, but I have been contemplating whether or not he is as intelligent as he is due to his disease. Due to the disease, his brain does not focus on or control any part of his body really, except for his thoughts and perhaps some other small things. His brain is just like ours, but the parts that are there which usually control the body, do not, so maybe that enables more of his brain to focus on logic, problem solving, etc. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say came out the way I meant it to, so I hope it did. view post

I enjoy his work, it's another author whom I read as a child. And what will happen when we do figure it out I wonder, will it simply cease to exist, will it end like the bible says... who really knows? About humans and how we do not like things we are not familiar with or things left unexplained. I want to try something here and see what you're reaction would be, some people are different from others, some are scared of what they do not know and others accepting or interested, those seem to be the ones who have the thirst to know more. My experiment I want to try is completely hypothetical, and is based on your reactions or what you say. Tell me your reactions, thoughts, etc. on what I write below; I feed off the emotions of others, manipulate their energy for my personal uses. Through meditation I have achieved things you could only wish you could achieve. Communicated with beings that some say are non-existent. If someone said these things to you, what would your initial reaction be, belief, doubt, would you think the person was clinically insane, would you search for answers, be afraid or want to know more? view post

Exactly, so what are your thoughts on that? If he can do it, perhaps there is a way for us to learn how to use the parts of our brain that we do not normally use. Some say that there is a part of our brain that allows us the abilities of telepathy, etc. What are your thoughts on this? view post

So many things may be possible. It bugs me to know that many things I will never find out about in my life time. If we do figure any of these things out. Mathmeticians, physicists, etc. are currently working on the Unified Field Theory. Apparently if the theory is proven correct or whatever, then it will make alchemy possible. Alchemy is not magic but it is a science, yet another thing we are using science to explain. It still makes me wonder, what would happen if they did prove the theory true and alchemy was made possible? If something like alchemy can be proven possible using science, can magic after all be possible as well? What are the limits of science? If science can prove it, does that mean that magic is just unexplained science and is nothing more? There must be more to this world. I hate to think that there is no mystery to what we live in. Everything being proven by science, that's fine but there must be some sort of parallel, anything. view post
Telepathy is such a specific word, Id say all humans have a sixth sense a subsonscious intuition that helps us daily with interpreting peoples feelings and intentions, or communication without words or body language. As for can other humans achieve what Hawking did I suppose its possible but we would likely have to sacrifice another function of our brain. What I think humans as a majority should focus on is developing the use of our brain we have now. You can train your mind to do things many consider impossible, I completely believe that people are capable of what the Dunyain are capable of in PoN.[/quote:2gvmu66e] Speaking of the Dunyain... I have a friend who got me in to the series, it is uncanny how alike Kellhus he is. It freaked me out, everything right down to the description, his way of thinking. He does not see people as people, he sees them differently and it scares me. The worse part is that he believes in magic and being capable of more than we are. Things like that often scare me a bit or make me wonder how a person can be so much like a fictional character. Then again I think we all try to relate ourselves or people we know to characters in books. view post
Science is just a fancy word used to describe the art of understanding why things do what they do. I have read very little of the Unified Field Theory though I probably should because I am fond of Einstein's work. If alchemy is achieved that will likely be as close as humans will ever come to magic.[/quote:1dxt4qfz] I don't doubt you, but if magic can be accomplished through the manipulation of energy, then I think there is a chance. Einstein's work fascinates me, I hear some are still trying to figure out how he was so intelligent, etc. I've heard rumours myself, one stating that our brains all use up the same capacity and that Einstein's brain was smaller than average there by making the ratio between the size of his brain and the amount used higher than the norm. view post

And this my friends, is why I used the word "hypothetical". If I said it out right, or if anyone said it, they would be outcasts, frowned upon. People are skeptical, always have been, always will. We demand solid proof or physical evidence before we believe something. Not many people believe what they do not understand anymore, and those who do are branded gullible... such as Kellhus and his gullible companion Esmenet, when it came to what Achamian was saying. Good example: Achamian and the rest of the Mandate Schoolmen believe what they say, they are alike in that aspect, but when it comes to people outside the Mandate, they do not always necessarily believe what they say. In our world there are those who some refer to as "spiritually aware" most people doubt them or think they are not sane, but the other that are "spiritually aware" accept them, etc. It seems that fiction can always somehow be applied to life. view post

Maybe I used the wrong word, it doesn't scare me but I find it odd. he is unlike any person I've ever met and I doubt there is another like him on the face of this planet. I do meditate and at one point I began to hear voices, it put me off meditation for awhile, but I do meditate when I can. It brings me peace and gives me a chance to put everything aside. I don't know what those voices were to this day. Ever since I've started, things seem different... view post

Judge me the way Kellhus would. I see myself in some aspects like Kellhus. If only others did the same. They do not seem to judge fairly. I really like some of the things said in this topic, they describe religion and faith pretty well. Now do me a favour, what would you say if I told you what I said earlier was not hypothetical but true? view post

Well, do you remember in one of the previous topics when I told the two of you to tell me your reactions if someone told you all those things about manipulation of energy, etc.? After that I asked you to tell me what you'd do if what I said in fact was not just hypothetical. I was hoping one of the two of you would figure out what I meant by that, it seemed neither of you understood my hint. Seems that you're more alike than I thought. With that said though, saying I have witnesses magic would be an understatement. Well, whatever it was, I just refer to it as magic, I don't know what else it could have been... As well, I don't normally like stating this for the fear of being thought insane and what not. :-/ view post

Hmm, very interesting, correct me if I am wrong but did it say that a war would happen in Israel and once that war did happen, the world would end? I'm not sure where I heard that, it was either while discussing the Bible or from another source. Someone please correct me if my information is incorrect. I actually read a book by Dean Koontz not too long ago that is about the end of the world, it was called, "The Taking". It made me think quite a bit. No one knew what was going on in the book, it wasn't until the end that the heroin put the clues together and figured out what happened/was happening. This makes me wonder whether or not we will even know the end of the world/apocalypse/Armageddon is even happening. We may overlook the truth of it and try to find a logical reason. The end of the world, how ever it will end, may disguise itself as nothing more than a series of terrible natural disasters, slowly working it's way to it's terrifying climax. That is when we will know what is truly happening. Well, it's an idea anyways. view post

Gladly; I do not know if it qualifies as "magic" but I couldn't explain it with other words. Perhaps it has to do with opening up another part of the mind that humans are not normally capable of using. The manipulation of energy. All humans, all objects, all [i:25jncnwg]things[/i:25jncnwg], have energy. A mixture of positive and negative. Sort of like energy fields, auras, etc. Humans exchange energy, this in my opinion is one of the ways strong bonds are developed between humans. To actually tell my experience now, I believe that after my experience, it is indeed possible to manipulate energy, to take energy from an object/person/thing. I've felt a person take energy from me, no physical contact, but they were able to manipulate it and transfer mine to them. To feel the transfer is an odd feeling, trust me, you'd know I wasn't kidding if you felt it. Now I will await to see your judgment of my words. I have more to say but I will wait. view post

Well, an explanation has been given. Let's see what is thought of it. The masses may think me not sane but the masses are unable to think for themselves, this irritates me. Perhaps magic has something to do with will? The mind has a part in it I would think. Assuming magic is at all possible or plausible. view post

I thought this may be of interest to a few of you. I was glancing at some topics, threads, etc. and noticed how some seem to refer to ancient/medieval times. One thread was on mythology. I'm in an organization called the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronisms. I thought it might be interesting to see if any of you have heard of it or perhaps are a member. I also thought it would be fun to actually tell you that in the society we sort of recreate medieval times and what not. We create a persona, lives, decide where we're from, our culture, what year we were born, etc. It's like taking on a whole new life... and from some of my experiences I can actually say,"I've gone to battle against the Romans." Most of the mundanes seem to think we are just outright weird, but I'm sure some of you may find it interesting. So has anyone heard of it, etc. at all? view post

posted 04 Dec 2006, 04:12 in Philosophy DiscussionSorcery by Cordelia, Auditor

Yes, I have learned to do it myself and when I am extremely bored, I entertain myself by transferring it back and forth between my hands. I've met a few people, who can do much more than that. I've asked them about energy transferring and everyone seems to sense it differently, some feel a cool sensation, others a warm one, some feel a tingling feeling, others a pins and needles. I've also learned that it is easy to take energy but very few can give energy through transferring. I suppose that would mean the other person would have to take it form you. I've learned that depending on a person's feelings, mood, etc. their energy is affected as well, so by taking the energy of that person, you get some of their emotions or feelings they are experiencing. Again, I have much more to say. And how about we'll keep it at, the 3 of us are somehow oddly alike. view post

Fair enough, I am skeptical of people until they can prove it to me. I had one person believe me, what I did was a complete accident though. I meant to take some energy from them but I gave them energy burn, one once explained to me what exactly it is, but I don't remember. All I know is that it caused her some pain and I kept apologizing after. Sort of like rug burn... except from energy and it didn't leave a mark. view post

I thought this one would be interesting. I often find myself caught between two things. I sometimes take pleasure in one's misery, then at the same time I will feel guilt and remorse for being so cruel. I know we do wish horrible things upon some and when it does happen, we take pleasure in it, but do we feel guilty about it? Do some not have any remorse or guilt for thinking these things? Mankind plainly irritates me. I realize I am a human being but are we morons to think we are different from the rest of them? Well, first of all I should ask, do you think yourself different form the rest? And I do think I am very different from the rest. Intellectually and otherwise. What does everyone else think on all of this? view post

If you wish me to go on about my experiences, I must warn you that it gets more unbelievable... I do not know what you will think. It gets more complicated and just... different. Most probably wouldn't believe me for the life of them, that's why I tend to keep it to myself or to those who have had similar experiences as me, etc. But if you still wish for me to go on, say so and I will do so. I just ask not too be judged to severely. Maybe you won't think what I say is as crazy as I think you will, some are more accepting than others, some aren't. view post

Well, WP, your definition of a familiar is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Now I ask you, do you think it possible that parallels do in fact exist? This is a crucial part if you wish for me to tell you more. Some believe that familiars can are merely animals in our realm who help to serve a person, though I've met others who say familiars can also be from other realms or perhaps parallels. So I am not merely asking about parallels, but other realms and dimensions in general. Referring to my question about your childhood Warrior-Poet, I don't see what I have as a "magical gift". It is simply something I learned to develop, probably with my mind. If you recall the discussion about tapping into potential that we as humans currently are unable to do. I believe that a portion are able to tap in to a very small amount of it, or something of it. As well as that, I think my greatest gift would be my mind as opposed to these "gifts" you speak of. I fail to see them as gifts, I've never really thought too much of it. I see my mind much like Kellhus' as well, though like I said before, as humans we seem to try and relate ourselves to fictional characters, I think it helps us to see who we are in a sense. Now, before I answer your question about age, how old do you think I am? Not just that, but consider what you know from conversing with me, as in how old I seem to be from my speaking, thoughts and so forth. view post

Indeed! In my opinion, everyone has a slight psychological disorder, I find myself often analyzing everyone from complete strangers, to family and friends. I don't know why, it's an automatic thing I suppose. It seems to amuse me. Many strange things amuse me, it eludes me on occasion. Even when you think you are unique, it's always with a bunch of people who think they are different as well... in the end resulting in you being the same, heh. Much like here. Pantalaimon was not form another realm, but he was still a different creature who to me fit the description of a familiar. Anyways, I have met people who claim to have them to state it simply. I genuinely believe that they telling the truth as well, it's just the things that had happened, it was one of these people who taught me to manipulate energy. Answers: Poe wrote on both, they can both be used to create little fliers, neither of them would make a very good pillow. Though I think the right one is that Poe wrote on both. The cabin one is hard... it's a riddle but it's very hard, if you wish, I will allow you to ask questions or I can give you a hint or two. As to WP's riddle, I have the answer: David... D is the Roman Numeral for 500. Five in the middle is the Roman Numeral V... V is in the middle of David. The first of all letters is A and the first of all figures in Roman Numerals would be I (as in the number). If you put it together it's David... as in King David from biblical times. My riddle: There is a thing that nothing is and yet it has a name. It is sometimes tall and sometimes short, Joins our talks, joins our sport, And plays at every game. view post

Next line: 1 11 21 1211 111221 312211 13112221 1113213211 Why?: It's weird, it sort of describes the previous line by stating the number of each well... number. It basically says that there is one 1, one 3, two 1, three 3, and one 1. Just like the second row describes the first row as having one 1, the third stating that the second row has two 1, and so on and so forth. Ok, I'll try to explain it more clearly... 1 11 21 1211 111221 312211 13112221 1113213211 First line: 1 Second line refers to previous line: there is one 1, it is respresented by two 1s. Third line refers to previous line: there is one 1, so the first 1 symbolizes the amount of 1s. Fourth line refers to previous line: two 1s, it is represented by a 2 and a 1, saying there are two 1s. Fifth line refering to previous line: one 2, one 1 Sixth line refering to previous: 11=one 1, 12=one 2, 21=two 1s Seventh line refering to previous: one 3, one 1, two 2s, two 1s Eighth line refering to previous: one 1, one 3, two 1s, three 2s, one 1 Does that make sense at all? view post

Because there are so many things we wish to experience, so many feelings we wish to feel, experiences that we feel the need to try. Everyone feels that they have a purpose, that purpose gives them that will. Whether it is love, family, friends, education, there is always a purpose. Some wish to do great things in the fields of science perhaps, find a cure for diseases, help those who have the will to live but can't live. Some live for love, others because life can be such an incredible thing. view post

Don't say that. Sometimes I feel like dying, sometimes I think that if I were to die right now, I'd be perfectly o.k. with it. Do you have anything in your life that makes it worth living? I know I do... I have a desire to go in to medicine or something equally as challenging and important. Aside from that, I have a couple really good friends who keep me grounded, I wish to expand the friendships I've created with them, experience new things and find my true potential. Then there is one particular friend of mine whom I happen to love, I want to win him over despite how he says love is for some but not others and it will never be for him. He has feelings towards me, but he doesn't love... These are things that make us want to live. A goal, something that makes us want to get up in the morning, the people around us that make our days just that much better. view post

So ever since that, apparently people say I look good, pretty, etc. but I'm still in the mentallity that I don't. I'm in high school still... in your last two years of high school in Canada, you can take this thing called a co-op. It has to relate to one of the courses you are taking. They give you a placement and everyday for half of the day, you go to this place and learn about whatever it is the placement is for. Ie. If you are taking law, you could apply for a placement with the police, and you would learn about that type of career. I have a couple friends who went in to auto co-ops. They both have a placement as a garage, they do work on cars, etc. The sad part is that sometimes the people just use the students as extra hands to clean up, etc. view post

Well, I guess I'm sort of interested in being part of the Candian Military. Though there was a lot of controversy about the whole idea of a military co-op. Some people were saying that it was the RCM's plan to recruit teenagers and more people in to the military. I don't see it that way tohugh, I don't think I'll join, I'll probably leave after I finish my co-op (if I do the co-op of course.) Plus military experience will look good on my resume, hehe. Sometime I would like to join the RCM, but I could do so much more with what I'm capable of, ie. sciences, engineering, law, etc. Though I have been considering applying for the RMC (Royal Military College), it's a military university that only accepts like 200 people across Canada each year. You have to meet the requirements then if you get accepted, they pay for your education, whatever you plan to study. And the great thing is that there is no limit on the education they will let you get, you can get a doctorate/PhD and not have to pay. Though in the end, those who attend must serve in the RCM for at least 5 years. So I'm still debating what to do... view post

I was doing some research and I came across some articles, this one is pretty interesting. http://psychology.hypnoticworld.com/inf ... edness.php It looks at reasons people have given through the ages as to why some are left handed and does a quick analysis as to whether or not it is a plausible reason or if the possibility of it is valid. I did come across one line that said much of the royal family is left handed, and raylty tends to breed within their bloodline, so I suppose it is possible that incest may have a part in it, but I do not believe it would ahve a dominant role.
