To answer your post, yes. I do not think that they are occultic in nature. There is one organization in particular named the C.F.R. which stand for the council on foriegn relations. It appears to be the political front in America for the Builderberger society. In fact both President Bush and John Kerry are members of the C.F.R. The C.F.R is the group that wanted the war in Iraq and that is why politians in both parties supported the war. That includes Bush and Kerry. Sorry to all those out there that thought Kerry would have brought meaningful change, because he wouldn't have. So here's my conspiracy and world domination beliefs for now. Sorry for the misspellings and the long post. Do not worry there is more to come. view post

I must comment on some matters here. Not to defend the positions of the Popes to lead a holy war against the muslims. In fact I have no desire to defend any pope. Yet I must point out the muslims weren't peacefully living in their lands and all the sudden these meany Franks by order of the pope attacked them. The muslims previous to the crusades conquered Spain, Sicily and were invading southern Italy on regular intervals. In fact in 800 A.D. a pope watched muslim invaders kill several hundred Anglo-Saxon pilgrims right outside the Vaticant. Also it was the Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire who asked the pope to help him after the Seljuk Turks conquered Antioch. The first crusade was led through Constantine and defeated the Seljuk army sent to destroy it. In fact the niece of the Emporer stated the the charge the Frnaks led against the Turks would have shattered the walls of Babylon. So yes the Orthodox Greeks wanted at least the first crusade to ease the pressure on them. What the Emporer did not want was the amazing success the first crusade had. In fact the next emporer became so jealous that he had his navy kidnap the King of France while he was returning from the failed second crusade. That is all I will say for now. Please comment. view post

I realize this post will be very biased and I hope to not anger anyone. As I believe the God of the Old Testament is still the God of the New Testament. But is there such a thing as a Holy War? I can only answer from what I understand from the Bible. Which is what I base my understanding of holiness. Again I realize there are many that do not hold this veiw. So for the record I am not trying to force my view only to explain it. No where in the Bible does it say Holy War nor does it call those that fought holy for fighting. King David was forbiden to build the Temple because of the wars he fought. What I understand is no war is holy, but at time a needed act, to perserve ones people for example. I believe if a war was to be holy God would have to take a side. From the example I see of Joshua speaking to the Captain of the Lord of Hosts outside of Jericho God does not take the different sides that man does. The Crusades and all the Jihads were not of God and certainly can not be considered holy. I know that there is much to comment on so please do. view post

SF I see that you point to God use of the Babylonians in war. I would hardly think that God considered that war or it's soldiers holy! There were wars ordered by God for a purpose. People who hate God and the Bible cite all the cases in which God speaks of war. I find that intersting considering the fact that most people who hate God spend a lot of time trying to disprove the very Bible that they quote from. view post

Brad, I see where you come from on people stating that God does not sanction killing. I do not believe that I stated any such thing. If I did it was in error and I apologize. My point is this. Most people who have declared a holy war or jihad heard only from their own booket book or their own hate not God. I realize that you do not believe in a Christian God. No problem I do not wish to argue the point with you. Hopefully it does not appear that I am. Yet I must add that not every war spoken of in the Bible was a direct order of God. In other words those that did it did not go to war for God's sake. Therefore they committed a self-intersted act and did not do the will of God. Just to make it clear not every war fought by Isreal or Judah was holy. Certainly the wars fought by the Syrians, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians or the Greeks. Yes God used them for His own purpose, but they were not holy. Sorry for going on and on. This is my personal belief and it is not stated to push anyone or to offend. If I have offended I am sorry but know it is not on purpose. view post

To answer the question were wars ordered by God? Yes, they were. As you pointed out with Joshua, King Saul, King David and so on. If these men had not fought then yes they would have been outside of the will of God. I can not explain this compared to the commandments given by Jesus. All I know is to be holy one must obey God and love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. One more point to add. David without dispute in the Bible was a man of God. We know he fought multiple wars and killed many people in the role of protector of his people. As stated before he was a man of God, in fact a man after God's own heart. Yet because of all his killing he was forbidden to build the temple for God. Only a man of peace his son Solomon could build the temple. I do think that gives us some perspective. To the original topic of God ordering a war is it Holy. I believe in the cases of Joshua, Moses and David that yes they were a holy war. I lack understanding on many of these things but Aleo is right if God orders it it is holy. view post

Azdahak I understand your point of view. Meaning that a socialist democracy is your preferred society. What about people here in America who do not wish to live in that type of society. Personally I do not want to hand most of my money over to the government and have them take care of me. Thomas Jefferson once stated that if the government has the power to give you food, clothing and shelter they also have the power to take it away. Right now in America if the government controled those functions, the truth is they would not take them away. They would leverage them for their own control of the society. Another fear I have to having is a socialist democracy is the office of the president regardless of party has gain power never granted to it by the constitution. I state all this for one reason. Over the last 20 or more years the presidents have been moving to have power similar to that of a Roman Emporer. How they do this is through executive order. Bill Clinton issued over 400 and the current president is on the same course. Our congress is content to stand by and do nothing even though the power is theirs according to the constitution. Like the Roman emporers taking power from the senate. If we have one person with majority power that controls the food, clothing, housing and medical needs of the coutry. Then what is to stop him from abusing his powers. We have many examples of that in history. Recent examples are Stalin, Hitler, Saddam, Pol Pot and Ho Che Mein. One more thought that I have a hard time getting around is the fact that the Nationalist Socialist Workers Party is what the Naxi party's official name was. view post

Randal Those are some interesting thoughts. Paying about 30-40% on taxes is about what we in America pay anyways. Most of are taxes are income tax and property tax. Our politians like to hide taxes in the basic use of services so it is hard to say what our exact percentage is. I will say this much every time I check my pay stub a strong urge to call the police and tell them I have been robbed comes over me. I have to disagree with being a part of a world government. America has many problems of its own without a doubt. We can at times truly be arrogant, self-conceited, proud and even cruel. Yet, at the same time so is the rest of the world. Many countries say why can't America adopt more of the ways in which we do things? I understand that statement America makes the same statement all the time too. I find this to be arrogant on both sides. I am a patriot who loves America and the American way of life, but I am not a nationalist that thinks the American way of life needs to be pushed on the rest of the world. At the same time I appreciate other peoples from other countries being patriotic and loving their way of life. I do not appreciate them trying to tell us that we are not as smart or as sophisticated as them because we do not do things like them. To people in other countries that tell America that we are stupid for who we vote for let me just tell you that I find it offensive. No I did not vote for Bush I voted for Nader. I do not support the war in Irag. It is unconstitutional and wrong. It is unconstitutional because congress never voted to go to war. They merely voted to hand the president a blank sheet of paper to work off of. In other words they voted to give up their rights to say yes or no. I find that to be cowardly and wrong. I believe the out cry should have been to replace congress with people who aren't afraid to do their job and vote on the issues that are in their power to vote on and really make policy decisions instead of letting the president do it. Under the constitution the president is the Commander in Chief of all American forces and has some other limited executive powers, but all legisative powers and the power to long term deploy the military rest in the hands of the congress America can not go around the world trying to fix all these problems militarily. That is too reminisent of the Roman empire for me. As the first leaders of this country stated. Friendship and trade without partiality to all, and entangling alliances with none. That is not xenphobia just what I believe would be the best way to operate with foreign policy. view post

Will, You are right I did not make a clear point about us not being apart of a global government. In a way I did address it by saying we need to stay out of other countries militarily. We as Americans need to as I stated before have open friendship with all and free trade. No America should not be the overlords of the world. To me that goes for any country or group of countries. I do not want to see a global government because I feel that as the common man we will lose a lot of our direct representation from our leaders. One example and then I will stop and wait for feed back. That example is who are all the active members of the Security Council. i do not mean the countries. I mean the names of the individual people. I did not vote for a one of them. That makes me think that there is an accountability gap. That is one of my main concerns about a global governing body. view post

Scott, I noticed that there are two oppossing veiws of warfare in the books. Conphas states that war is intellect and Khellus States that war is conviction. At one point in time I would have totally agreed with the belief that Conphas holds. Yet after reading TWP and reflecting back on several wars and campaigns I have read I see that conviction is a major role too. What made you pick up on this and make it a part of your books? I think the real betrayal that Cnauir feels is due to the fact Moengus provided something that was lacking in his life. Moengus show Cnauir genuine interest. We know that it was fake interest but to Cnauir it was genuine. Then Moengus showed Cnauir that he truly understood him. I do not believe that those were things Cnauir was accustomed to so like a man starving he jumped on those interests showed him and gained a strong emotional attachment towards the one that showed them to him. Cnauir has showed that sex has little emotional meaning to him so whether or not he had sex with Cnauir is really inconsequential to the fact of the emotional betrayal. Let us also look at the fact that Cnauir laments the death of his mother because Moengus impregnated her. Cnauir axe to grind with Moengus I believe covers many things. view post

The issue of the skin spies was one that I always questioned. We know that in the TWP Kellhus saw about a dozen in the camp. They were a factor to him but not part of his goal. As long as the skin spies stayed out of his way he did nothing to them. As soon as one of them did get in the way he eliminated it. The example being the first Sarcellus. view post

The Biblical definition for holiness is to be set aside exclusively for the purpose of God. That in mind people who were called of God and ordered to go to war by Him and did so with the right heart and mind would be considered holy men. Their purpose would be holy and the war would holy. What about the point that killing is bad? How can God order such an evil act? It is simply a matter of purpose and perspective. God has ultimate authority and judgement, therefore He has the right to order death and war. I on the other hand am just a man with selfish motives and purposes that are evil. There is no way that any murder or war that I could cause would be holy. view post

No one had lost more sons to the Fanimiry that the empire had. So here the empire's ancient enemy is on the ropes on the verge of complete destruction and Conphas tells his army let's go destroy our fellow men of the tusk and save our ancient foe. That is not going to fly with his army so therefor they betrayed him at the moment of his greatest need. view post

I read most of the posts here already and felt the need to add my two cents. Forgive me if my write up is not as well thought out as Randall, Peter or Will. According to my beliefs God created both good and He created evil. That is stated in the book of Isaiah. From a non philisophical stand point good is good because God defines it as such and evil is evil again because God said so. I do dissagree with the thought that God does these things based off of whims. God is not whimsical at all. Another thought is if God is good then why is there evil. My understanding is that God does not want automatons but people who choose Him and His ways willingly. view post

Yes she is weak and seemingly betrays the latest lover to take up the next strongest guy that comes along for security, but so does every woman. You only need to look around at the majority of the women who inhabit the news or even your neighborhoods to see that every woman is looking for security as every man is looking for adoration. This scene is played out by every woman who stays with an abusive or degenerate man just because he is security. Even when the woman is supporting said slacker who lays passed out on the couch from whatever vile potion he consumed, she will still stay because to leave him would to be to give up on her dream of finding Prince Charming behind the Toad she first kissed and to step out into the terrifying concrete jungle alone. If Bakker is writing about his critique of every woman, then he is also writing about every man...the eternal lust for power and war and to dominate the women in his path and to overcome the perceived weakness of himself. Again, look only as far as today's headlines to see every manner of man conquering some foe, whether on a field of war or of sport. From the Emperor to Akka, you can see the self doubt that every man longs to have resolved for him, either by his accomplishments or his woman or lover...his prize. Maybe also he even touches on a homosexual fantasy that many men fear, that in even the sexual preference there might be a weakness. You have missed the scope of Bakker's writing.....yes, he writes of himself but he also places all of humanity into his reflections of himself.[/quote:37dg89oe] I agree with this by and large with the exceptions to a woman's point of view due to the fact that I am not a woman. Liberals and conservatives both use the bully pulpit and propaganda. The liberals have mainstream media and the conservatives have the more popular talk show hosts. What irratates me the most is we seldom debate issues any more before we run quickly into defamation of character and shaming of people. i do not mean this in context to this board but general American and even world politics. One fear and shaming tactic used a lot in America is the term intolerant. Most that use that term do not even use it right. It is not intolerance to disagree and think something is wrong. Intolerance is to physically and verbally be uncivil and violent. People that use the intolerant stick because you disagree with them are wrong. You can only have tolerance if there are disagreeing parties. If everyone agrees there is no tolerance because everyone is on the same side. I find that those that proclaim themselves tolerant and say those that disagree with them are intolerant are actually the intolerant one because through embarasment and shaming they try to silence the other opposing veiws. view post

It is my (wishful) presumption that the new version of the dreams are only seen by Akka. It is my thought that Kellhus would be able to infer its' meaning if the other Mandati were having them and that would ruin the surprise. That's what I meant by that statement. If my assumption proves correct, Akka is Seswatha's last true disciple/student. I believe that you are correct in this. i believe it will add a whole new twist to AE. view post

Kellhus will keep Esmi due to her loyalty. She believes that Kellhus is the the hope of the worls. Akka and Kellhus will most likely be reunited just after the start of the Second Apocalypse. No kellhus and Akka will be brought back together by the rise of the consult and of the No-God. I believe it will mirror Seswatha and Celemonis's (sp) relationship. Yet I sense Scott will throw something in there to break the cycle so that the Second Apocalypse will not be a carbon copy of the first. Why do I think Kellhus can turn the Erratics? Well first Seswatha was freed from the wall even though a nonman had him prisoner. I do not belive that Seswatha won his freedom by force but rather he gained his freedom by suppling the Nonman with something he needed. In other words memories. i believe that Kellhus can build off of this. The erratics do not serve by desire but by need. If that need is removed then I am sure the consult would have hell to pay from the Erratics. I know goofy theory and hard to support but i believe Scott has dropped enough clues that it is possible. view post

This post is for this topic and also for a topic in the WP section. The No-God must have some awareness and conscience. I base this off of TTT page 250 where Kellhus and Aurang are talking and Kellhus tells him that Mog is dissappointed by his failure at Mengedda and that he is coming for him. This infers some sort of awareness and even to me a level of malevolence. view post

Do not get me wrong I feel horrible that Akka has so far gotten the raw deal but ibelieve that will only make him strong enough to be a serious threat to the consult. Back to Esmi she is carrying Kellhus's child. That child will be very important in 20 years but to reach its potential the child will need Kelhus as a mentor not Akka. This is a fact that i believe Esmi is most aware of. view post

There is no one antagonist in this story. You have the consult, the No-God and Kellhus who can argueably be protagonists. Akka is a very human individual in fact his personality and how he feels about peopl seems very similar to Seswatha in the dreams. There are differences though, like Seswatha was politically astute where as Akka is inept because he tries to hard. Now that Akka has nothing to try so hard for he may become a master at Benjaku and therefore serve many purposes. As for turning to the consult? I doubt it. Akka will become the source of their nightmares they will scream his name in dread as his form becomes the incarnation of Seswatha on the battlefield. In TTT Akka even marvels at what he did to the Scarlet Spires because Seswatha took over in some form. Why is Seswatha so dominant in Akka and not the rest of the Mandate? I belive it is due to a kindred spirit and deeply similar motivations that go beyond simply hating the Consult. view post

To say guess what we want turmoil in the Middle East in order to prevent the rise of a caliphate and the possible expansionary wars that this caliphate may conduct. That would be so intangible to most Americans so we have to lie and say oh this is for terrorism and 9-11. When actually it is to prevent the rise of the Middle East. I can not answer all your questions but my thought is that Seswatha's dream changed in order to warn Akka rather than deceive. Akka went through to dramatic experiences with Seswatha. One being the time he was captive to the Scarlet Spire and the other when Kellhus hypnotized him in order to talk to Seswatha. I believe both these experiences opened up a more direct link between Akka and Seswatha. view post

I agree that these are ways to express yourself i.e drugs, sex, drinking, shooting and blowing something up. I will also state that there are times when drinking becomes drunk or even buzzed when it is no longer harmless. Three years of doing shore patrol in the bar district showed me that first hand. Alhana is right to say that the children that do these things need someone to listen to them and be there for them which should be their parents or guardian. To which I replied to him " do you know what the difference between a marine and a sand bag is?" He said "no". Then I said "sand bags are cheaper and can catch more bullets." A second after I said that I thought boy I could have died just then or at least been in a fight with an angry marine. That was both stupid and suicidal. view post

I agree automatic weapons are for cowards or people who just do not have a lot of time. I was picked on a lot in school but it was due to the fact that I mouthed off a lot and went to about 15 different schools. I still never wanted to shoot everyone. That may have had to do with the fact that my step-mom stayed at home and my dad was around quite a bit. I had no time to plot killing people and I had the holy living fear of God toward my dad. He was not mean but go ahead and do something he told you not to do and you would deeply regret it. So I never had some of the problems that others have had. We have several parties too. The problem is most American would rather vote to keep someone out of office than to vote someone into office. An example is conservatives voting for Bush just to keep Kerry out of office. All the conservatives know that Bush is not a conservative, but instead of voting for someone they agreed with they voted to keep Kerry out of office. Another example is Liberals voting for Kerry, who by the way is not a liberal he is a leftist, instead of voting for Nader who really is a liberal. Why again not out desire to see Kerry as president but rather a desire to try to get rid of Bush. The media does not help either. The only reports you will see from the major media on third party canidates is one of ridicule but mostly they kill third party candidates by ignoring them. view post

The points that Vercint made are very good. I missed the short and brutal way he explained carrying Proyas out of the desert. That was a good catch Vercint. I also agree that Cnaiur saw more in Proyas than simply another man he was attracted to. He saw qualities that he respected in his own grudging way. I also wonder if just did not feel remorse for the way Kellhus was using Proyas. Since in many ways it was similar to the way Moe used him and took advantage of him. view post

On the other hand, you are right in that "we create history" in the sense that the present defines the past. We are constantly assigning meaning to our experiences, so the way we see the variables of history is determined today. Excellent point. There are many instances that i see in our world where that is extremely true. The history of the Anglo-Saxon invasion of England is assigned a different level of importance than the Vandal sack of Rome. view post

Think of it the Mandate and the Scarlet Spires completely behind him along with the Thousand Temples which also has members that are the few. Okay no mystery there or any shokc but what I found shocking was the way he almost copied Cnaiur's way of veiwing the Inrithi. The first two guards that kneeled to him and saluted him as the Holy Tutor were spit on by him. We all know how much Cnaiur enjoys spitting with disgust. Then there is the fact that Akka is hardened now to the point that he has very few emotions left that are positive. I know it is not a revelation but rather something that struck me last night. view post

They have independant thoughts it is just that the consult controls over them are too great. To prove that they have independant thoughts just look at the second skin spy to be Sarcellus. Kellhus told him that he was betraying his masters earlier. Kellhus said that to confuse the skin spy, but the skin spy actually believed that one of his brothers could betray the consult. So the issue is controls that over come thought not that they have no thoughts. They are rather conditioned. view post

There were millions of them on their ship. So who is to say they all practiced the Tekne. Maybe they many different fields of specialization and the Tekne was just one of them. The two surviving Inchoroi may not have ever known a thing about the Tekne because of being in another field. view post

Some times for a brief moment death seems like a good way to run, but it is not. Life is way more fulfilling when you stand and face things. posted 11 Dec 2006, 17:12 in Philosophy DiscussionNationhood by Harrol, Moderator

Peter I agree with a lot of what you say but one point I believe needs to be added. But if we accept this interpretation, we find that our notion of nationhood relies upon shared history and culture and the notion of sharing history and culture relies upon the notion of nationhood. Rather, we imagine a community, an identity which we then impose on objects which we find in the world. We will never meet and come to know every other person in our nation, so we imagine that there is something held in common between us, this history, but the history itself is imagined (i.e. the ownership of it is). Like I said this appears to me to be true but in addition is protection. Nationhood means protection from in al ot of ways. True being a part of a nation does not mean you are protected totally but it does mean in some way you have protection. view post

True to what you say. I believe it is the perception of protection more than anything. Also I believe having common laws and some sort of domestic protection helps out. Why have a nation still? Yeah, sorry, I didn't see this reply initially (sorry blind). I don't want to go on too much more, so I'll say that I can see why it might be the case that people need leaders and nations provide a firm basis for creating leaders, but I think that other systems might do it better. National leaders will follow the national interest and this will harm the interests of others. What I want is leadership which deals with individuals and with all rational beings. No ignoring the plight of Africa because they are poor, no hatred of the French because history tells us to and no "My country right or wrong". Akka is tortured about the Gnosis and about Kellhus. Neither spill the beans. I agree with everything you stated with a couple exceptions. The first is him being tortured by the Scarlet Spires. On two seperate occasions he beat Conphas one publicly the other privately but everyone knew what he did. He was also raped by Cnauir. The Nansur like the Romans would follow any amount of deprivations with the exception of weakness. Cnauir made Conphas look weak. Along with the points that Jamara made led to his demise. This may sound funny or like a compromise but here is what I believe. I believe the Bible therefore biblical creation. Yet creation in the Bible is very vague. Another point to note is that many times a day is a measure of time not an actual 24 hour day. The physical proof for evolution seems overwhelming, not perfect but overwhelming. I can not prove I.D. in fact it in my opinion will never be proven. In my belief God set up a eco system that could run itself. Now I can not prove that yet i believe it. God's main concern is not the physical but rather Man's heart, soul and spirit. The body merely houses my soul view post

just finished re-reading this chapter... there is no compulsion (in the sense of this book or by it's normal definition) that wouldn't be considered more closely possesion. The inchoroi, controls her actions (her body), knows her thoughts, memories and controls her speech (mind). Esmi is there, but not nearly in the same sense as xinemas with the cants of compulsion. afterwards she isn't upset because she felt she had stated that she wasn't in love with him, rather it was because the inchoroi found it in her mind and kellhus agreed. how that's not demonic possesion is beyond me. also the synthese are shells meant to hold a mind and project one of the consult's soul (mind, voice and vision). if you are possesing a body with no soul or mind is that demonic possesion? I agree Buckethead. As I stated in anther thread look at her encounter with a soldier after her possession and you will see her inner corruption by contact with Aurang. view post

Interesting question. Lets just work with the idea that there is a God. Is IT flawed? I think the first question to ask is do we possess the awareness to realize his flaws? Does the ant realize the flaws in man does he even have the means to do so? If there is a creator does It have flaws the answer is still to be determined. Is the universe flawed? As far as we can see and observe yes but in a 100 years we may realize what we saw as flaws were actually for the good. view post

I am writing this post to express my veiws of this president. In the year 2000 I voted for him because Al Gore seemed too out of touch to me (the whole talking tree impersonation that he does so well). During his first term my opinion of Bush changed drastically. I do not believe Bush is either conservative or christian but rather he uses those labels to garner support. Bush is a neo-con all in all and his whole dumb act is just that an act. He does reason and plot quite well as he took the shortest path on Iraq. Suddam was spending millions on the euro to devalue the worth of the dollar and his constant needling at the US government made the government look weak. As soon as Iraq was invade Lybia abandoned their nuclear program as did Iran in 2003. The US proved that while it may not be able to remake your country in its image it can destroy your military and then leave you vulnerable to your own internal enemies. In other words a manuver similar to Cnaiur making Conphas fear for his life and therefore think with his skin. I do not agree with Bush's international policy but I do see some merits to it. Back to my original point I see no evidence of Bush being a God fearing christian but rather a shrewed politian playing off of the convictions and beliefs of others. view post

Dirk69er saying you think similar to Thomas Jefferson is a compliment from me. I love reading his thoughts on principle and life. I used to study the Bible everyday and I mean study with a Strong's concordance looking up the original words to understand their meaning. By no means am I an expert but I was a commisioned lay leader. God does promise unpleasant recompense for altering or misconstruing His Word. This used to literally make me tremble before I taught a study and I used to try and check carefully to make sure I taught nothing out of context and yet some how i managed to foul things up anyways. In my life I have ran across Christians that do not care that they have teaching contrary to the Bible. They merely say oh thats not what it means and then they stumble around some contrived explanation that does not even make sense to them so they can go on believing what their mom and dad taught them. Where is the revence for God in that? Further more where is God to help us see clearly. I prayed about issues for years and never gained an answer. This experience is why I posted the last statement. view post

Well he is so smart oh and he is African American so if he gets elected we will make history and prove to the rest of the world that we are not racist. Not that the rest of the world doesn't have its own racist problems . Back to Obama he has become a blank slate that everyone can write all their hopes and dreams on, but after four years we will see him differently. I really do not care that Obama's names are all of muslim inspiration. What I care about is here is a man and his wife that do not have any real love or respect for the nation they are campaigning to lead. If McCain had made a comment like such as "a typical black person..." his political career would be over dead but Obama can make a calous statement "a typical white person..." and no one bats an eye. I do resent people who use racisism in any way like Obama and his preacher. I am not a McCain supporter as I see him as a R.I.N.O. but Obama's brand of racisism or tolerance of hatered can not be tolerated. Hey I like clarity. In a supernatural sense no he is not a prophet but in the way of predicting and even altering the variables to bring about a prophecy then I would say yes. The prphecy with Saubon was just corespondence of cause. Yet Kellhus' words gave Saubon the belief and certainty he needed to order the suicide charge against the snake heads. Kellhus's word gave the spark that caused a firestorm of thought that led to the daring resolve needed to win the battle. view post

I believe we are over looking how Esmi cowed Elazerith (sp) the grand master of the Scarlet Spires? This is after her seduction by Kellhus. Another thing is that she is second to no one but Kellhus even Proyas defers to her. Her personality changes true but who has not after dealing with Kellhus for a prolonged period. I believe that Esmi is a lightning rod because she is one of three main female characters. Let us also look at Esmi's childhood her dad raped her and men in general found no use for her outside of sex. This causes a person to think their greatest asset is their sexuality. Her desire for Kellhus's manhood is not because she is seduced by it but rather she believes it is her way to keep a hold on the relationship. view post

The second debate facts posted 08 Oct 2008, 17:10 in Philosophy DiscussionThe upcoming election by Harrol, Moderator

OBAMA: Said McCain's proposal to give people a tax credit in exchange for treating employers' health insurance contributions as taxable wages amounts to "what one hand giveth, the other hand taketh away." THE FACTS: Obama's suggestion that McCain's health care plan is a wash for families is misleading. McCain offers families a $5,000 tax credit to help them buy health insurance. The corresponding increase in taxable wages would result in a much smaller cost than the value of the tax credit, at least at first. Over time, the value of the tax credit may diminish as premiums rise. However, the Tax Policy Center estimates that McCain's plan would increase the federal deficit by $1.3 trillion over 10 years — mainly because it would lead to less tax revenue coming in, meaning it is a true tax break overall. ___ McCAIN: Said he would provide a $5,000 refundable tax credit for families to buy health insurance "rather than mandates or fines for small businesses as Sen. Obama's plan calls for." THE FACTS: Obama's health care plan does not impose mandates or fines on small business. He would provide small businesses with a refundable tax credit of up to 50 percent on health premiums paid on behalf of their employees. Also, large employers that do not offer meaningful coverage or contribute to the cost of coverage would be required to pay a percentage of payroll toward the costs of a public insurance plan. But small businesses would be exempt from that requirement. ___ OBAMA: "Actually I'm cutting more than I'm spending so that it will be a net spending cut." THE FACTS: The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama would increase spending by $425 billion over four years and reduce spending by $144 billion for a net increase in the deficit of $281 billion. Obama has said he'll cut pork-barrel programs and the costs of the war in Iraq to pay for his programs — as well as raise taxes on the wealthy — but the specifics of his new spending plans outweigh the few spending cuts he's identified. ___ McCAIN: Said one way out of the financial crisis is to "stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us." THE FACTS: Although he didn't spell it out, he was referring — as he has in the past — to purchases of oil from countries hostile to the U.S. The figure is inflated and misleading. The U.S. is not spending nearly that much on oil imports and roughly one-third of what it does spend goes to friendly countries such as Canada, Mexico and Britain. ___ OBAMA: Blamed some of the problem of terrorism in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region on Bush administration policy in Pakistan, saying "We can't coddle, as we did, a dictator, give him billions of dollars and then he's making peace treaties with the Taliban and militants." THE FACTS: Obama oversimplifies ex-President Pervez Musharraf's approach to making peace deals. In fact, the U.S.-backed Musharraf focused more heavily on military action, launching blistering attacks on the militants at times and negotiating peace deals with them at others. Obama also ignores the fact that Pakistan's newly elected civilian government, also U.S.-supported, is seeking the same kind of peace deals and has stepped back from heavy-handed tactics that were pursued by the Musharraf government. ___ McCAIN: Said Obama had voted for tax increases "94 times." THE FACTS: This inflated count, heard before, includes repetitive votes as well as votes to cut taxes for the middle class while raising them on the rich. An analysis by factcheck.org found that 23 of the votes were for measures that would have produced no tax increase at all, seven were in favor of measures that would have lowered taxes for many, 11 would have increased taxes on only those making more than $1 million a year. ___ OBAMA: "I believe this is a final verdict on the failed economic policies of the last eight years, strongly promoted by President Bush and supported by Sen. McCain, that essentially said that we should strip away regulations, consumer protections, let the market run wild, and prosperity would rain down on all of us." THE FACTS: McCain has indeed favored less regulation over the years but supported tighter rules and accountability on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years before the start of a financial crisis prompted in part by those giant mortgage underwriters. Obama was not a leader in that unsuccessful effort. Some of the current problems can be traced to legislation passed in 1999 that lifted many regulations over the financial industry. That deregulation was championed by then-Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, a McCain supporter, but also by President Clinton, who signed the legislation, and by former Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, now a top Obama economic adviser. ___ MCAIN: "Oil drilling offshore now is vital so we can bridge the gap between imported oil ... and it will reduce the price of a barrel of oil. ... We've got to drill offshore and do it now." THE FACTS: The government estimates that opening the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and eastern Gulf of Mexico to drilling "will not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030." Even then, it would only increase domestic oil production by 3 percent. ___ Associated Press writers Tom Raum view post

Re: The upcoming election posted 16 Oct 2008, 04:10 in Philosophy DiscussionThe upcoming election by Harrol, Moderator

More election facts. WASHINGTON - Facts went astray on tax cuts, negative campaign advertising and oil imports when Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain engaged Wednesday in their third and final presidential debate. ADVERTISEMENT Some examples: OBAMA: "Every dollar that I've proposed, I've proposed an additional cut, so that it matches." THE FACTS: The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that his programs would add $281 billion to the deficit at the end of his first term. The analysis includes Obama's proposals for saving money. ___ McCAIN: "We have to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much." THE FACTS: This is a reference to U.S. spending on oil imports. McCain has repeatedly made this claim. But the figure is highly inflated and misleading. According to government agencies that track energy imports, the United States spent $246 billion in 2007 for all imported crude oil, a majority of it coming from friendly nations including neighboring Canada and Mexico. An additional $82 billion was spent on imported refined petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and fuel oil. A majority of the refined products come from refineries in such friendly countries as the Netherlands, Canada, the United Kingdom, Trinidad-Tobago and the Virgin Islands. ___ OBAMA: "One hundred percent, John, of your ads — 100 percent of them — have been negative." THE FACTS: The statement is mostly true when it comes to McCain's current commercial spots. But by saying McCain's ads "have been" 100 percent negative, Obama ventures into misleading territory. A recent study by the Wisconsin Advertising Project at the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that in the first week of October "nearly 100 percent" of McCain's ads were negative. The study also reported, however, that to date 73 percent of McCain's ads have been negative and that 61 percent of Obama's ads have been negative. ___ McCAIN: "Sen. Obama is spending unprecedented amounts of money in negative attack ads on me." THE FACTS: Obama is spending unprecedented amounts of money on ads, period — negative or otherwise. Obama is outspending McCain and the Republican Party by more than 2-to-1 in presidential ads. At one point in August, 90 percent of the ads Obama was airing were against McCain. The study by the Wisconsin Advertising Project found that about 34 percent of Obama's ads are now negative. ___ OBAMA: "I want to provide a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans, 95 percent." THE FACTS: Obama constantly says this. But the independent Tax Policy Center says his plan cuts taxes for 81.3 percent of all households in 2009. ___ McCAIN: Said of Obama's running mate Sen. Joe Biden: "He had this cockamamie idea of dividing Iraq into three countries." THE FACTS: Biden actually proposed dividing Iraq into three semiautonomous regions, not separate countries. He was a prime sponsor of a nonbinding Senate resolution that called for Iraq to have federal regions under the control of Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis in a power-sharing agreement similar to the one that ended the 1990s war in Bosnia. ___ OBAMA: Said he would be "completely supportive" of late-term abortion restrictions "as long as there's an exception for the mother's health and life." THE FACTS: Obama leaves himself a lot of latitude in this answer. A woman's "health" has been so broadly interpreted that it can include conditions, including psychological conditions, that are difficult to diagnose or prove. Anti-abortion advocates say that makes the ban meaningless, because it leaves too much subjective judgment in the equation. ___ MCCAIN: "Sen. Obama, as a member of the Illinois state Senate, voted in the Judiciary Committee against a law that would provide immediate medical attention to a child born in a failed abortion. He voted against that." OBAMA: "If it sounds incredible that I would vote to withhold lifesaving treatment from an infant, that's because it's not true." THE FACTS: As a state senator, Obama opposed three legislative efforts, in 2001, 2002 and 2003, to give legal protections to any aborted fetus that showed signs of life. The 2003 measure was virtually identical to a bill President Bush signed into law in 2002 — a bill that passed before Obama was in the U.S. Senate, but one that Obama said he would have supported. The state of Illinois already had a law to protect aborted fetuses born alive and considered able to survive. Among those opposed to the state effort was the Illinois State Medical Society, which argued that the bill would interfere with the doctor-patient relationship and expand civil liability for doctors. Critics said the proposed legislation would have undermined the landmark Supreme Court case on abortion, Roe v. Wade, in ways the federal law would not. ___ McCAIN: "Senator Obama talks about voting for budgets. He voted twice for a budget resolution that increases the taxes on individuals making $42,000 a year." THE FACTS: The vote was on a nonbinding resolution and did not increase taxes. The resolution assumed that President Bush's tax cuts would expire, as scheduled, in 2011. If that actually happened, it could mean higher taxes for people making as little as about $42,000. ___ OBAMA: "We can cut the average family's premium by $2,500 a year." THE FACTS: If that sounds like a straight-ahead promise to lower health insurance premiums, it isn't. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it's not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums. ___ MCCAIN: Warned a small business owner that he would be fined under Obama's health care plan if he did not provide health insurance for workers. THE FACTS: Obama's health care plan does not impose mandates or fines on small business. He would provide small businesses with a refundable tax credit of up to 50 percent on health premiums paid on behalf of their employees. Large as well as medium-sized businesses that do not offer meaningful coverage or contribute to the cost of coverage would be required to pay a percentage of payroll toward the costs of a public insurance plan. But small businesses would be exempt from that requirement. ___ McCAIN: "We can eliminate our dependence on foreign oil by building 45 nuclear power plants right away." THE FACTS: For nuclear power to lower oil dependency would require a massive shift to electric or hybrid-electric cars, with nuclear power providing the electricity. No new U.S. nuclear reactor has been built since the 1970s. Although 15 utilities have filed applications to build 24 new reactors, none is expected to be built before 2015 at the earliest. Turmoil in the credit markets could force cancellation of some of the projects now planned, much less spur construction of 45 new reactors, as reactor costs have soared to about $9 billion apiece. ___ view post

As I wrote in the previous post Kel's love of death and destruction seems to be more like a Inchoi love of death and suffering than anything we have seen from the gods (Yatwer)so far. I do not believe the Consult would use compulsion to control or should I say influence Kel's sick actions. What happened to Kel could be a thing of the Tekne rather than magic. This is just speculation so far we do not have enough info to draw a conclusion. view post

I believe that Kellhus wants the Ordeal to win. He knows that their world is subjective to the beliefs and convictions of the inhabitants. That beiing stated the triumph of the Ordeal puts Kellhus one step closer to his goal of becoming a self moving soul by becoming a god and controling the Outside. The shortest path to achieving this is through the beliefs of the masses. view post

Thorsten that was well stated. I think that Kellhus not only wars to defeat the Consult but also to control the outside. The normal Duinyain without The Thousandfold Thought would be left with only the option of closing off the outside but with the TTT he can shape and control the outside to a degree. I think that Yatwer senses that and is acting against Kellhus so that he can not gain that power. I may be off here but from what I can gather this appears be roughly the second war that Kellhus fights. view post
