[quote="Edge of Certainty":14xjawy4]Jeez, I just can't stay away from this forum...it's the thread that never dies!! anyway, I keep seeing this reoccuring idea here that being a "good person" has somthing to do with being a Christian....not true...in it's purest form, Christianity should have nothing to do with being a good person. It's simply the belief that there is a God and he had a son...so and a so forth...but whether or not you're a good person has nothing to do with whether or not you get into heaven, according to the Bible anyway. It's simply believing that Jesus is God's son and he died for us so we could live. That's it...I think the ten commandments are a good suggestion, but you can't get into heaven by good acts. I think a lot of Christians fail to realize this as well, and so maybe that's why this idea of if you be good, you'll go to heaven keeps showing up[/quote:14xjawy4] you just underlined my whole belief for me. thanks for driving the point :D view post

what about Val Kilmer as Kellhus? Diane Keaton might be able to play esmi. i think she's old enough looking (IMO, she's not too old, anyway), and she may be able to pull off the character. i agree that the Rock might be able to play Cnauir, although he might be too young. what about Adrien Brody as Xerius? what about Liam Neeson as Akka? view post

Achamian gets my vote in the poll question. he is definitely, IMO, one of the most "real" characters written to date. meaning, this character can live in our world and not look fictional. his personal traits is the same as that of the general public. however, my fave definitely (along with Akka, too) is Kellhus. definitely the most interesting character i've read about because what he is and what he represents. view post

Kellhus, definitely, for me. he is the true fantasy character. after TDTCB, he is the most dominating human i've read, if he is indeed human. the most violent, charismatic character. violent in a sense that he can do anything to you, not physically, but because of just what he is. Akka gets a nod too. view post

the one moment i loved about akka is in one of his internalizations, when he said that he can just torch this whole place, toast everyone in there, and he would come away unscathed. but, in the end, he didn't, and he just continued waiting. 3 things: 1. this just showed how much power he has if ever he intends to use it. 2. the nature of the human mind. there's just a part in us that wants to come out on top and take the easy in all things. 3. the character's humanity. not everything will go his way, and though he has the power to turn the sides and use it to his advantage, he controls himself. view post

i've read Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods, and even Good Omens. among the 4, i enjoyed Stardust a lot, simply because it had that "idealistic appeal" to readers. it makes me remember what it felt like reading for the first time, being ideal, and having that "fairy-tale ending" every kid dreamt about. view post

:D sorry about that. i was thinking about the girl from Unfaithful all the way. i knew she was a "diane" anyway, try looking at the Unfaithful for those that don't know her. i know she's probably older than 30, but i mentioned her simply because of comparisons to Serwe. when i think of the actresses that are around 30 yrs of age (Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, etc.), i think it won't really show the differences between Esmi and Serwe physically, as stated in the start of book2. view post

relatively new as a hardcore fantasy reader. WoT was the first i read and loved the first couple of books. that got me hooked. as to why read fantasy, i have to say that it's the world-building that got me in. also, it's trying to picture yourself into their world, thinking of what you'll be in the situations they're in. i have to admit though, before being a fantasy fan, i was kinda turned off by the covers in fantasy books. that's why i appreciate the Penguin covers of teh Priunce of Nothing. simple, yet interesting. view post

posted 05 Apr 2006, 03:04 in The Warrior ProphetWhat about akka and esme. by glaz, Peralogue

i just finished reading TWP, and i must say, i feel sorry for akka and esmi. yes, i admit im a romantis at heart, but logically, esmi had every right to "go" with kellhus after akka. mainly, it's because of a reason that's already posted: they thought akka was dead. life doesn't end just because of that, esmi should look for another man because she still lives. what i don't like though, was kellhus "tone" when he thought (about esmi) "soon you would be mine" (paraphrased statement.) that saddened me so much because akka was evolving with esmi. he was feeling happiness. the saddest part, though, was when he returned and at first thought that everything would be like how he left it. after knowing what had happened, he just... crumpled. yes, he got angry, but his aura does not exude hatred, but grief and lost hope... and visions of "what could have been" view post

just finished TTT. first of all, wow!!! firstly, i noticed that throughout history, there's only one Anasurimbor beside seswatha in the past that he teaches. with Maithanet and Kellhus, we see 2 (although, Maithanet is only half). next, we see the king, Anaxophus, being spoken to by the no-god. aside from kellhus, do we have any reference to an Anasurimbor being spoken to by the no-god? IMO, this second apocalypse is very different from the first. same players, but a different game. i don't think there is any Q's as to kellhus being the Harbinger. but what of akka? i got a nagging feeling that we won't see him kneeling down to kellhus in the future... view post

if you were in his shoes... posted 13 Apr 2006, 02:04 in The Thousandfold Thoughtif you were in his shoes... by glaz, Peralogue

just finished TTT not 30mins ago. firstly: AKKA KICKS @$$!!!!! ok, so he gets to be with the one person with a sliver of hope that he can be with (esmi). then she thought him dead, and beds your "harbinger." he comes back, thinking everything would be the same, but it's not. he decided that the world is bigger than himself, so he sacrifices himself (AGAIN) but in the end, he went his own way. renounced all he is and renounced kellhus, even esmi, walks alone. he even thinks himself alone, a perfect man. so, is this selfishness? IMO, it's not. he did what's right for him. and after all that happened to him, i think he deserves some happiness. sadly, the ending is the closest he'll get to happiness, as i can see it... so what about your opinion? if you were in his shoes, what would you do? view post

i also hope he doesn't... but it seems that's the road we'll be heading to, right? seswatha has always been with an Anasurimbor. but what bugs me is akka's last dream... here we see Anaxophus being spoken to by the no-god, just like kellhus. does that mean we'll see a change here? does the dream mean something, or am i just reading into it too much? view post

posted 13 Apr 2006, 02:04 in The Thousandfold ThoughtAchamian and Seswatha by glaz, Peralogue

a lot can happen in 20 years. kellhus being an aspect-emperor for 20 years will result in him being a "god among men." but then again, he's gonna get caught up iwth everything that's happening around him. akka, on one hand, is alone. no friends, no belongings, and no "morning." all he has is the gnosis. in 20 years, i think we might just see him be as powerful, if not surpass, seswatha. as to kellhus and his own knowledge, he will also become powerful, but he IMO will find need for akka. view post

posted 14 Apr 2006, 01:04 in The Thousandfold Thoughtif you were in his shoes... by glaz, Peralogue

any way we look at it, akka is in a no-win situation. there's no way he'll win against kellhus vying for esmi's heart. after all, she's with kellhus' child and kellhus is an almost perfect specimen. as far as drawing esmi's mind away from akka, i don't think she even knows it, knowing that kellhus is a master manipulator. what i really hate about all this is that esmi gave herself up too easily. yes, she is a survivor. but gave up akka in what? a month? it's like there's no mourning at all. you lose someone you love, then a moment after, you find someone else.that's just... dandy. if i were akka, id burn kellhus while he was being hung. i don't care about him being Harbinger and all. he took away my one true love. the world doesn't matter anymore. this means ill never get esmi back, but after being taken by kellhus, there's no chance in hell she's coming back to me anyway. kill kellhus, then walk away. walk off a cliff, probably. :D  view post

on your 4th speculation, primal, i don't think kellhus would do that. if he did that, what would he gain? what would he get in return? his actions are so efficient that everything he does ultimately means he'll gain something for himself in return. on another note, this is just pure speculation on my part, or some wishful thinking: what if Kellhus is NOT the Harbinger? i re-read akka's last dream in TTT, where the no-god is speaking to anaxophus. what was akka's reaction to this? he said: "this isn't how it's supposed to be." now, the no-god is also speaking to kellhus. if we follow what has happened before, this isn't how it's supposed to be, right? does this mean that there must be someone else? also, akka saw Fane's mark (the two scimitars) scrawled to his forehead. does this mean something? or am i really reading into all these too much? view post

i should have thought about it before posting, since the title "Chricstianity" is actually a loose term, since there seemed to be a couple of religions that call themselves "christians" even though their belief system may vary. an example would be , say, Roman Catholicism and Protestantism (where one allows prayers offered to saints, while the other says that prayer should be said only to Yahweh. EE, as to the statement "worship no other gods befoer me," i feel that it could be said in context to the present situation of the Israelites at that time. they have just recently got out of Egypt, where they have been slaves for hundreds of years. they may have adopted the Egyptian religion, which is polytheism. but when that commandment was written, Yahweh wanted them to return to their old belief, just like their ancestors. which is monotheism. view post
